Applications are open to any member of the LGBTA Community, as well as other members of the community.

THE HISTORY OF THE ICOAA SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

1982 - BY PROCLAMATION OF REIGN VIII OF THE IMPERIAL COURT OF ALL ALASKA, THE COLLEGE OF EMPERORS AND EMPRESSES SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM IS BORN.

Initially $1 from every Coronation Ball ticket was used as seed money for the Scholarship Fund. The College of Emperors and Empresses ("The College", or "College of Monarchs") held Monarch shows, progressive dinners, holiday parties, and other fundraisers to support the Scholarship Program. Each Spring applications were made available to members of the community, and scholarships were announced at Coronation (Labor Day Weekend).

The Scholarship Program involves volunteer promotions with the hard work and dedication of title holders of the ICOAA and greater community.  Scholarship fundraising includes a reigning Emperor or Empress designating all their reign fundraising, the yearly Trollop Awards, the Memorial Day Family Picnic at Kincaid Park, and the individual efforts of former title holders, and members of the College.

Scholarship award recommendations are provided through a committee review of applicant submissions and selection of suggested award recipients. Each application packet is reviewed, ranked, and placed in a priority order. The priority areas are:

1) Economic Need

2) Scholastic Achievement

3) Leadership Ability

4) Contributions to the LGBTA Community.

Scholarship applications are offered to Alaska residents with preference given to members of the LGBTA community. The ICOAA Board of directors is the final authority on disbursement of awards, balancing both available funds and qualified applicants.

Doctors, nurses, lawyers, school teachers, public servants, biologists, stylists, marine biologists, environmentalists, sociologists, hygienists, therapists, PCAs, counselors, IT techs, librarians, fashion models, dancers, musicians, clerics, opera singers, CPAs, Alaskan Native leaders, set designers, flight attendants, pilots, veterinarians, interpreters, engineers, photographers, statisticians, journalists, and small business owners are a few of the occupational venues where ICOAA Scholarship recipients have contributed to the Alaska and greater USA communities.

Total scholarship funding expended throughout the Scholarship Program's 35 years is approximately $900,000, with the majority of the scholarships supporting University of Alaska students statewide.

Great thanks and appreciation go to all who have expressed their interest in the Imperial Court of All Alaska Scholarship Program, including the College of Monarchs, ICOAA titleholders, consistent support from the individual members of the Imperial Court mother court of San Francisco, entertainers, MCs, set designers, sound and lighting techs, applicants, teachers and professors, committee members, directors and officers, past recipients, and local organizations like Identity, Inc., P-Flag, and GLSEN Alaska, Inc.
